This group exhibition presents the results of the Nazar Voitovich Art Residency (NVAIR), which was organized by the NGO Congress of Cultural Activists and the NGO Youth Development Center Bridge - both based in Ukraine. The exhibition is sponsored by public funding from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
Within the framework of the program, the participating artists re-thinked communication mechanisms in society, investigated the visual and verbal flow of information, destroyed their own stereotypes, and set up communications in search of impressions. A special inspiration was the residency location. The residency village of Travneve, Ukraine is characterized by calmness and magnificent landscapes. Located in the Ternopil region, the village is the native home of “Hero of Heavenly Hundreds” Nazariy Voitovich; a teenage victim in the Maidan events of 2014. The purpose of the project is a unique way of honoring the memory of the Voitovich, creating opportunities for young artists, to help them realize their artistic professions; as well as to develop the cultural field of the local community. Selected artists spent four weeks in September under the exchange program with the Košice Artist in Residence (K.A.I.R.).
The creators included in this exhibition are Oleksandra Pavlovska, Denisa Slavkovska, Eduard Klena, Sergio Kovalov, Karina Sofit, Larisa Fedorenko, Alyona Kuznetsova, Valeria Tarasenko, Anastasiia Kostenko, Stanislav Tolkachov, Vitaliy Agapeyev, and creative couple Julia and Pavlo Shpylovyi.
Curator Liudmyla Nychai is an artist, art critic, art manager, and teacher. She is the Co-founder and Project Coordinator for the Congress of Cultural Activists.
